FCRA Compliance

    Fair Credit Reporting Act

There are limits to how you can use ThreatAnalysis reports. Please review these terms before running a search.

    1. ThreatAnalysis is not a consumer reporting agency

ThreatAnalysis ("the App", "we", "us") is not a consumer reporting agency as defined by the Fair Credit Reporting Act, 15 U.S.C. § 1681 et seq. ("FCRA"). The information we provide is not a "consumer report" and may not be used as a factor in establishing a person's eligibility for credit, insurance, employment, housing, or any other purpose covered by the FCRA.

    2. What the FCRA restricts

The FCRA governs how consumer-report information may be gathered and used. It generally prohibits using such information to make decisions about consumer credit, insurance underwriting, employment (including hiring, promotion, reassignment, or retention), tenant screening, and eligibility for government licenses or benefits.

Because our reports are compiled from public records and other publicly available sources and are not verified to FCRA standards, they must never be used for any of these restricted purposes.

    3. Permissible uses

You may use ThreatAnalysis for personal safety, security research, reconnecting with people you know, verifying someone's identity for your own knowledge, and other lawful, non-FCRA purposes.

For a plain-language summary of acceptable and prohibited uses, see our Do's & Don'ts page.

    4. Your certification

Before viewing search results, you certify that you will not use any information obtained from ThreatAnalysis for a purpose restricted by the FCRA, and that you will comply with all applicable federal, state, and local laws governing the access and use of public-records information.

    5. Accuracy and limitations

Public-records data can be incomplete, out of date, or contain errors, and records may pertain to individuals other than the person you are researching. A search for criminal or traffic records does not necessarily mean the person has any such history, and the absence of records does not guarantee a clean history. Always independently verify information before relying on it.

    6. Questions

If you have questions about permissible use or the FCRA, review our Do's & Don'ts page or contact our Support Center. For official guidance, consult the Federal Trade Commission at ftc.gov.
